OXFORD, Miss. - With two days of taking physical exams and attending numerous meetings behind them, the Ole Miss Rebels will finally hit the practice field here Saturday. Split practices are scheduled as the varsity will work in the morning and the freshmen in the afternoon.
The split schedule will continue through next Tuesday, while the first day of practice for the entire squad together at one time will be Wednesday, August 10.
"We want to create a competitive atmosphere in camp as we attempt to find the best 11 players on both offense and defense," said first-year Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron. "These early practices will also help us in our efforts to build depth on the offensive and defensive lines and to see exactly where our freshmen may fit in."
Ole Miss will begin the 2005 season on Monday afternoon, September 5, against the University of Memphis Tigers. Kickoff is set for 3:30 in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis and the game will be shown nationally by ESPN.
