OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team concluded day two of fall practice with a two-and-a-half hour session in shorts and helmets for newcomers and younger players on Sunday afternoon, after the varsity took the hot practice fields adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in the morning.

"We were practicing a lot better today," said head coach Ed Orgeron. "Our freshmen came out here this afternoon and had a great day. We had guys getting reps all over the field. That's important.

"We had some guys fall out today on the defensive line, so we had a lot of linebackers playing defensive line. So today was more of getting through practice, and getting reps for guys like Michael Oher, Antonio Turner and Milton Collins."

Orgeron also announced today the dismissal of freshman defensive back Jabarre Mitchell for disciplinary reasons.

Morning Practice:

The 2005 Ole Miss Rebel football squad continued preparation for the fall season with its second day of practice here on the practice fields adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Sunday morning.

The varsity went through drills this morning, while newcomers and other younger players will go this afternoon.

Sunday morning's practice opened with players and coaches going through some one on one work before working on some offensive and defensive schemes. The Rebels then stretched and worked on special teams before breaking back into groups to work on the game-plan for the fall. The two-and-a-half hour practice was capped off with an extended session of offense versus defense.

"I was really pleased with today," said head coach Ed Orgeron. "They came out today with a lot better execution. They were getting better with the tempo. We saw some guys do some tremendous things today."

One of those guys was senior defensive lineman McKinley Boykin.

"I thought McKinley Boykin had a great day today," Orgeron said. "He really came into his own. I think he's going to be a fantastic player for us."

Orgeron had these things to say after reviewing the film from Saturday's practice:

"I was really impressed with the freshmen. I was disappointed with the execution of the offense. Today they came out and did a lot better job. I thought that yesterday the defensive line did not set the tempo of practice. Today they did. When you see the defensive line playing well, it's a good thing."
