Rebels Drop Pair In Final Day Of South Alabama Tournament

MOBILE, Ala. - The Rebel volleyball team suffered a pair of setbacks on Saturday as Ole Miss (6-6) fell to .500 on the season after dropping matches to North Florida and South Alabama by scores of 3-1 in both matches.
Ole Miss fell to North Florida (4-6) in the first match of the day 3-1 (30-23, 19-30, 25-30, 24-30) before falling to the hosting South Alabama Jaguars 3-1 (26-30, 30-25, 27-30, 28-30) in the nightcap.
Senior Nikki Hill led the Rebels in the first match with 23 kills on the night and was joined by junior Jaclyn Toohey with 18 kills. Nicole Mahan added 14 digs for the Ole Miss squad on the day.
The Ospreys of North Florida got a solid afternoon from three players with double digit kills, led by Kelly Kazmierciak's 16 kills. She was joined by Allison O'Neill and Jennifer King with 13 kills each. King and Jenna Thomas also added 15 digs each on the day.
In the second match of the day, Toohey again helped pace the Rebels with a season-high 23 kills along with 11 kills from Tricia Agee. Tara Langley put up 19 digs in the match to help the Rebel defense against the Jaguars.
Three members of the South Alabama squad tallied double-digit kills to help the Jaguars take the match. Via Filipe led her team with 21 kills, while Jenna Swilley and Summer Pilgrim added 13 kills each. Defensively, Colleen Downey turned in an outstanding performance with 27 digs against the Rebels to lead three Jaguars with double-digit digs.
Ole Miss will return to action after a week off when the Rebels host Georgia and No. 8 Florida in the opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play. Ole Miss and Georgia will face off at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 23, in the Gillom Center.
