Lady Rebel Netters Dominate Tennessee-Chattanooga 6-1

OXFORD, Miss. - The 36th nationally ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team dominated Tennessee-Chattanooga, 6-1 in their season opener Saturday at the Gillom Sports Center. The Lady Rebels will conclude the weekend Sunday by hosting Southern Mississippi at 1 p.m.
The Lady Rebels got on the board first by winning the doubles point in convincing fashion. They only lost three games in all three matches.
"It was good for us to keep score again," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We have had a long break between our last fall tournament and this match. We played great doubles. In singles, we showed a little rust. That's what these early matches are for. It was exciting for Mimi to get back on the court for the first time since last May.
Freshman Ksneiia Tokarieva had an excellent debut for the Lady Rebels, teaming with sophomore Nika Koukhartchouk for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles and then taking out one of her doubles' opponents (Maureen Parris), 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. That made it 2-0.
Koukhartchouk dominated UTC's Lindsey Ballard, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to make it 3-0. Sophomore Preethi Subramanian downed Talita Braga of UTC, 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the win.
Tennessee-Chattanooga got their only point of the day, when transfer Anastasia Zhukova defeated Lady Rebel senior Virginia Tomatis, 7-6(8), 6-4 at No. 1 singles. This was the first time for Tomatis to play No. 1 singles.
Sophomore Mimi Renaudin made it 5-1, after she finished off Bonnie Adams, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
