Lexington, Ky. - The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition on Saturday at the McCravy Memorial hosted by the University of Kentucky.
"We had a phenomenal all around meet," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "We had a mission as a team this week to come out and perform at our best. As a team we are getting better every week and are headed in the right direction."
Three Lady Rebel athletes earned NCAA Provisional marks, led by senior Marquita Aldridge, who won the long jump competition with a personal best mark of 20-05.00.
Also earning NCAA Provisional marks today were sophomore Kenyata Coleman, who finished second in the women's 400-meters with a personal best time of 54.12, and freshman Cachet Murray, who was the top collegiate finisher in the 60-meters with a time of 7.40.
"Kenyata continues to turn in outstanding performances every week," said Walker. "She has her sights set on the school indoor record in the 400-meters, and she is getting closer by the week."
Other Lady Rebel of note were sophomore Carmia Carroll, who won the women's high jump (5-08.00), sophomore Alexis McField, who placed second in the triple jump ( 40-05.50 ), and the Ole Miss 4x400-meter relay team placed first with a time of 3:42.91.
The Rebel men were led by a host of young sprinters. Freshman Rodney Lockhart (47.70) and junior college transfer Jacob Farmer (21.55) were the top collegiate finishers in the 400-meters and 200-meters, respectively. Freshman Ray Jadusingh placed second in the 60-meters (6.85). Junior John Yarbrough was also the top collegiate finisher with a time of 8.15 in the 60-meter hurdles.
"Our young sprinters really stepped up for us today," said Walker. "Farmer, Lockhart and Jadusingh all ran extremely well and their best is still ahead of them."
Freshman Derek McGuire set a new school record in the shot put with a throw of 56-11.25, which placed him second among collegiate throwers.
Other standout performances for the Rebels were freshman Karl Kosman, who placed first in the pole vault (14-01.25), freshman Barnabas Kirui, who placed second in the 3000-meters (8:19.25), sophomore James Maloney, who finished second in the weight throw ( 57-07.050) and freshman Adewale Odetunde, who placed third in the triple jump (47-05.25).
