Lady Rebel Netters Conclude Weekend At ITA South Regional

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Members of the Ole Miss women’s tennis team competed in the ITA South Regional Championships this weekend at the Varsity Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Alabama.

 

Senior Ilona Somers advanced to the second round with a three-set win over Georgia Southern’s Martina Nitkova, before falling to Georgia’s top player, Natalie Frazier, 6-4, 7-5.

 

Junior Nika Koukhartchouk lost her first round match in the A Draw, while Carlin Cochran dropped her opening match in the B Draw.

 

In doubles, Somers and Koukhartchouk fell to Florida’s Csilla Borsanyi and Lolita Fragulyan , 8-5 in the first round.

First round Liz Cruz (USF) def. Nika Koukhartchouk (OM) 6-1, 7-5; Ilona Somers (OM) def.  Martina Nitkova  (GSU) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.  Second round Natalie Frazier (UGA) def. Somers (OM) 6-4, 7-5.

SINGLES A DRAW CONSOLATION

First round Whitney Chappell (AUB) def. Koukhartchouk (OM) 6-0, 6-2.

SINGLES B DRAW

First round Samantha Lange (SU) def. Carlin Cochran (OM) 6-1, 2-0, ret.

DOUBLES A DRAW

First round -- Csilla Borsanyi/Lolita Frangulyan (UF) def. Somers/Koukhartchouk (OM) 8-5.
