Roebuck Earns Third Career Top 10 Finish At Memphis Intercollegiate

10/3/2006 | Men's Golf

MEMPHIS, Tenn. Ole Miss sophomore Will Roebuck fired back-to-back 70s to finish tied for eighth at the Memphis Intercollegiate with a 216, just one shot back of a top five showing at the Colonial Country Club.

A native of Bucks, England, Roebuck opened the three-round tournament with a 76, but rebounded nicely for his third career top 10 finish.

Senior Callum Macaulay earned his second consecutive top 20 finish as he tied for 17th with a 220.  After a first-round 75, the Kincardine, Scotland native, finished with 72-73.

After a tough first 36 holes (304-295), the Rebels rebounded to shoot a 288 in the final round to move up to seventh place at 887.

“This wasn’t a good tournament for us overall,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “We finished strong today, which will hopefully give us confidence heading in our next tournament.  We just have to figure out how to start off tournaments better.  We are proud of Will, coming back with two solid rounds to finish in the top 10.”

Louisville opened with two solid rounds to take a commanding lead and won going away with an 857.  TCU came in second at 868, and Wisconsin finished third at 876.  Franklin Corpening of TCU (212) edged out South Florida’s Tyler Hitchcock by one stroke (213) to take medalist honors.

The historic Colonial Country Club’s South Course at one time hosted the FedEx St. Jude PGA Tour event.

The Rebels are back in action Friday as they face Mississippi State in the annual Magnolia Cup which will be played at Old Waverly Country Club in West Point.  The Rebels won the Cameron Trophy last year, which goes to the winner of the college competition.
