11/10/2006 | Women's Basketball
“I thought we responded really well after playing sluggish in our exhibition game,” said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross, who picked up career win 301 on Friday. “We did a much better job of communicating. We looked like a team out there.
“I was pleased we played well in front of the school kids. It is always a great day when they come to support us and I think this is the best show we have given them in the four years they have run this promotion. They give us so much energy with all their enthusiasm, sometimes its hard for us to maintain focus, but today I thought we did a nice job of doing that.”
Senior guard Armintie Price led four Rebels in double figures with 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor. Price also collected eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 24 minutes of action.
Sophomore center Shawn Goff came off the bench to record her first career double-double with a career-best 15 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Bianca Thomas had a solid Rebel debut with 12 points, while senior guard Ashley Awkward chipped in 10.
Ole Miss out-rebounded the Lady Lions 59-31 for the contest with senior forward Jada Mincy grabbing 11 caroms.
The Rebels forced 21 Lady Lion turnovers and held SLU to 18.4 percent shooting from the floor, including 3-of-21 in the first half. The Lady Lions scored 26 of their 46 total points off free throws, as they were 87 percent from the charity stripe.
With the score 11-7 at the 12:39 mark, the Rebels forced several turnovers that led to fast breaks and a 21-3 run before it was all over. Ole Miss led 42-18 at the break and the lead never got below 20 points in the second half.
