Ole Miss Signs Former Texas Quarterback Jevan Snead
12/27/2006 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron announced Thursday the signing of former Texas Longhorn quarterback Jevan Snead to a football scholarship. Snead is expected to enroll at Ole Miss in January and participate in spring drills. "Jevan was one of the top high school quarterbacks in the country," Orgeron said. "We are excited he will be joining our team in time for the spring semester." Due to the NCAA transfer rule, Snead, who played as a true freshman for Texas this past season, must sit out the 2007 campaign at Ole Miss, but will still have three years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2008 season. Snead completed 26 of 49 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns, with two interceptions, during his season with the Longhorns. He also rushed for 87 yards and one TD. His most extensive action against a Big 12 opponent was against Kansas State when he replaced Colt McCoy, who had gone down with a shoulder injury. Snead passed for 190 yards and one TD against the Wildcats. As one of the nation's top high school recruits a year ago, Snead was 23-2 as a starter at Stephenville (Texas) High, throwing for 7,995 yards and 100 touchdowns in 25 games his final two seasons. He was a 2006 Parade All-America team selection and was chosen for the 2006 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
