Lady Rebel Netters Dominate Southern 7-0

OXFORD, Miss. - The 35th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team proved too much for Southern University on Friday, dominating the Lady Jaguars 7-0 at the Gillom Sports Center to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Lady Rebels lost only nine games in the entire match to the four-time NCAA Championship participants, beginning with a dominating performance in doubles. Ole Miss combined to win all three doubles matches 24-2.
The domination continued in singles. First off the court was sophomore Nika Koukhartchouk. Playing No. 1 singles for the first time, she blanked her opponent, Francisca Osedumme, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman Kseniia Tokarieva continues to impress. She handed Tania Hicks a 6-2, 6-0 loss at No. 2 singles to improve to 3-0 in dual matches and nab her fifth win in her last six matches. She has not dropped a set in all 11 of her wins this year.
Ilona Somers made it official, when she finished off Beth Workeneh, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Preethi Subramanian also shut out her opponent, Me'Shala Johnson, at No. 4 singles.
Mimi Renaudin cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sydney Lartique at No. 5 singles, and Carlin Cochran completed the sweep at No. 6 singles, downing Gabrielle Marshall, 6-1, 6-2.
"We are proud of the team," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We talked before the match about staying focused and trying to become a better player, even if you are dominating your opponent. It's easy to let your guard down and lose concentration in a match like this. We did a great job of not doing that. We look forward to going on the road and playing a ranked team in Illinois next weekend."
The Lady Rebels will head to Champaign, Ill., for a Feb. 18 match at No. 49 Illinois.
