OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team, ranked No. 35 in the nation, needed just three hours in their first outdoor match of the season to sweep Middle Tennessee 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

With the win, the Lady Rebels improved to 5-0 on the season as they get set to host 29th-ranked South Alabama Sunday at Noon.

Head coach Mark Beyers earned his 100th career win. He won 50-8 as the head coach at Armstrong Atlantic State, including capturing the Division II National Championship in 1995.

"We played pretty well for not having played or practiced much outside," Beyers said. "We never gave them (Middle Tennessee) a chance to be in the match. It was important for us to play a match outside.

"We set a goal to start conference play undefeated. We've taken the first step and hopefully we can finish it Sunday."

Ole Miss swept the doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Nika Koukhartchouk and Kseniia Tokarieva remained undefeated (5-0) at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win over MT's Ann Kristen Siljestrom at the No. 2 position.

Ilona Somers finished off her opponent, Elvira Yusupova, in 40 minutes, 6-0, 6-0, to make it 2-0 Lady Rebels. Preethi Subramanian increased the lead to 3-0 with her 6-1, 6-1 win over Lady Raider Kelly Adams at No. 5 singles. She has now won seven in a row.

Mimi Renaudin handed MT's Pooja Kommireddi a 6-2, 6-2 loss at No. 6 singles to clinch the win.

Virginia Tomatis dominated Marlene Chemin 6-1, 6-0 at the top spot, and Tokarieva won her seventh match in her last eight, 6-0, 6-3, against MT's Siljestrom on court four. She is undefeated in singles and doubles in dual matches and has not dropped a set in any of her wins this year.

Koukhartchouk completed the shutout when she finished off Claudia Szabo 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
