GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Francis Vital turned a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 3,731 to finish sixth in the women's pentathlon at the 2006 SEC Indoor Championships.
"I am so excited for Francis," said Ole Miss track and field head coach Joe Walker. "She has transformed from a freshman trying to compete, to one of the top athletes in the SEC."
Vital's score moved her into second all-time in Ole Miss history, behind former All-America LaToya McBride. Her score also marked a 391 point improvement over her previous personal best. Vital also earned a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump earlier this season.
With her sixth place finish in the pentathlon, Vital earned Ole Miss three points, which also places the Rebel women in fourth place in the team standings after one day of action.
The rest of the Ole Miss men's and women's track and field begin competition today with action concluding on Sunday.
