Lady Rebel Netters To Host Southern Friday

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team is up one spot to No. 35 in the nation in this week's Fila ITA National Rankings as they get set to host Southern University Friday at 1 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Lady Rebels enter the match with a 2-0 record. They opened the season Jan. 28 with a 6-1 win over Tennessee-Chattanooga and then downed Southern Mississippi by the same score the next day.
"We are looking forward to getting back on the court after nearly two weeks off," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We had a solid opening weekend, and we've been working hard in practice to improve on those results."
Senior Virginia Tomatis and junior Ilona Somers lead the Lady Rebels. The pair is ranked No. 14 in the nation in doubles with an 11-4 overall record. Freshman Kseniia Tokarieva was impressive in her debut, going 4-0 in singles and doubles while playing in the top half of the lineup.
Southern captured the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship last year for the eighth time overall and the fourth year in a row. They made their fourth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and finished with a 12-9 record. This year, the Jaguars are off to a 1-1 start. They lost to LSU, 7-0 to open the season and then defeated Louisiana Tech, 5-2. The Jaguars are led by senior Francisca Osedumme.
