OXFORD, Miss. - After closing out a successful indoor season with eight athletes earning NCAA provisional qualifying marks, Ole Miss track and field teams open the 2006 outdoor season this weekend when they travel to the Rhodes Invitational.

"We had a great indoor season and we are looking forward to outdoor," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "We will just have a few athletes going to Rhodes this weekend. It will mostly be our throwers, who don't get to compete much indoor. Our big opening meet will be our home meet next weekend."

In addition to earning eight athletes earning provisional marks, three Ole Miss athletes broke school indoor records. Sophomore Kenyata Coleman established a new record in the women's 400 meters, freshman Barnbas Kuiri set a new record in the men's 3,000 meters and freshman Derek McGuire broke the previous mark in the men's shot put.

The Rebel men and women will host the first home meet of the season on March 25.
