BILLY CHADWICK NETS 500TH CAREER VICTORY

OXFORD, Miss. - Rebel head coach Billy Chadwick notched his 500th career victory Wednesday, as the No. 13 nationally ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team swept Memphis 7-0 at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
Chadwick, who has coached at Ole Miss since 1979, compiled 107 wins as the Lady Rebel head coach from 1979-1986. He now has 393 wins with the men's team, which he began coaching in the spring of 1983.
In his tenure, Chadwick has led the Rebels to the 1995 NCAA Championship Final, four NCAA Final Four appearances, four SEC Championships, four SEC Western Division Championships, five top five finishes and 11 top 10 finishes. Individually, he has coached two NCAA Doubles Champions, 17 All-Americans, five No.1 ranked players, six SEC individual champions and 44 All-SEC selections.
Off the court, Chadwick has coached three ITA All-Academic Teams, 16 Academic All-Americans and 55 SEC All-Academic honorees.
"It's a great feeling to have achieved all of this at Ole Miss," Chadwick said after the match. "I remember most of the wins, especially the big ones. I've been fortunate to coach some really good players. They are the ones who got the wins. I am just out here with my hat on. I never dreamed I would be standing here in 2006. It's been a lot of fun."
The Rebels, who posted their fifth consecutive shutout and eighth of the year, have now won 31 straight regular season home matches dating back to April 6, 2003.
The match began with Ole Miss sweeping the doubles for a 1-0 lead. They are now 72-3 when they win the doubles point dating back to the 2002 season.
Jakob Klaeson and Robbye Poole gave Ole Miss a 3-0 advantage with wins on courts six and five respectively. Just a few minutes later, Bram ten Berge made it official with his 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles against Memphis' Michael Jetter.
Eric Claesson, Juan Pablo Di Cesare and Erling Tveit all won their matches in straight sets as well, to complete the sweep.
The Rebels don't have much time to celebrate Coach Chadwick's 500th career win, as they get set for a four-match SEC road trip, beginning this weekend at Vanderbilt and Kentucky.
"We will be facing two very good teams on the road this weekend, so there is no time to relax," Chadwick said. "This is a big weekend as to how the conference race is shaping up. We need to play our best, because winning on the road in the SEC is tough."
