OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel football team continued spring drills in shells Wednesday, on the practice fields adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
The Rebels' sixth practice of the spring was highlighted by situation and one-one-one drills, followed by a scrimmage. Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron is satisfied with the progress of the Rebel offense so far this spring.
"Midway through spring ball we are really pleased with the performance of the offense," said Orgeron. "The offensive line is more aggressive."
Orgeron noted that he was pleased with the recent movement in the offensive line.
"We moved Andrew Wicker to guard, Thomas Eckers to center, Mo Miller is at right guard and Darryl Harris is playing tackle," said Orgeron. "With Michael Oher, I think that is a great combination. Coach Kehoe is doing a fantastic job. They are coming off the football a lot more aggressively."
Thomas Eckers' move to center is the first time he has played the position in his career. Orgeron said Eckers is settling into his new position.
"He has a great coach and a lot of confidence," said Orgeron. "Coach Kehoe has a lot of experience putting people in the right position."
The Ole Miss running game got the better of the Rebel defense today. However, Orgeron noted that the Rebels are without some defensive starters this spring.
"They ran the football on us a little bit today, but I think it is more that we don't have our guys in there," he said. "We are developing a young linebacker, but he is not ready to play yet."
Orgeron praised BenJarvus Green-Ellis' work at the running back position. Green-Ellis did most the damage today, as Mico McSwain sat out.
"BenJarvus Green-Ellis continues to be a good football player," he said. "Mico McSwain was out today."
Today also saw some separation in the quarterback and kicker battles.
"If we had to say today Seth Adams would be the back-up quarterback," said Orgeron. "The kickers have done a lot better. Will Moseley had a good day, so did Justin Sparks. If we had to name a kicker today it would be Will Moseley and Justin Sparks second."
Ole Miss continues spring practice on Wednesday. The Rebels will conclude spring drills with the Red-Blue Game, April 8 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
