OXFORD, Miss. - Working in full pads, the Ole Miss football team held its second scrimmage of the spring Saturday, and first on the turf of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/ Hollingsworth Field.

Rebel head coach Ed Orgeron was pleased with Saturday's midday practice, in particular the work of the Ole Miss running game.

"It was a good day," said Orgeron. "Our running game is tough. BenJarvus Green-Ellis brings another dimension to our team. I thought Robert Lane caught some good balls, and the defense made some plays."

With Mico McSwain still out, Green-Ellis took all of the first-team snaps at tailback. The junior transfer from Indiana responded with 82 yards on 20 rushes with four touchdowns, three of which coming in short-yardage situations.

"With his leverage, BenJarvus can run through you, around you or in between you," Orgeron said. "He is gifted and brings experience running the football."

Orgeron also noted the work of Michael Oher, Andrew Wicker and Darryl Harris on the Ole Miss offensive line.

Six different Rebels caught two passes, including Lane with a pair of grabs for a team-high 50 yards. Redshirt freshman WR Michael Hicks recorded two receptions for 40 yards, while junior TE Jason Hawkins had two for 34.

Junior QB Seth Adams managed the first unit offense and completed 7-of-16 passes for 91 yards, but he was sacked twice by Peria Jerry and interception once by Bryan Brown. Jerry, a sophomore defensive end, was credited with six tackles, three TFLs and a pass break-up, while Brown registered five stops.

Sophomore Robert Russell led the Ole Miss defense with eight tackles, while fellow linebackers Quentin Taylor and Rogers Loche each posted seven stops. Garry Pack also made five tackles with a pair of TFLs.

Orgeron praised the improvement of sophomore DT Hayward Howard, and said that Nate Banks, who notched two stops, a pass break-up and a forced fumble, earned his starting spot back at corner.

In his third practice since moving from quarterback to running back, Northeast Community College product Bruce Hall topped the 100-yard mark on the ground against the second-string defense. Hall rushed for 112 yards on 21 carries with four TDs, including a 30-yard scoring run.

"Bruce Hall made some strides at running back," said Orgeron. "We moved him there earlier in the week, because we needed depth at that position. We saw he could run the ball when he was at quarterback. He is a tough kid."

Ole Miss continues spring drills on Monday. The Rebels will conclude the spring with the annual Red-Blue Game, April 8 at 1 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
