No. 2 Texas Outlasts Ole Miss, 4-0

AUSTIN, Texas - Behind 18 strikeouts by All-American Cat Osterman, the second-ranked Texas Longhorns defeated the Ole Miss softball team 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational at McCombs Field.
Ole Miss (4-12) got a strong effort from starting junior left-hander Mary Jane Callahan (1-7), who pitched six complete innings and gave up four runs on seven hits, while striking out six Longhorns.
She was out-dueled by Osterman, though, who went seven innings and gave up three hits with her 18 strikeouts.
The Rebels' leading hitter, freshman Lisa Conchos, had a hit, along with Jessica Plemons and Callahan.
Texas (20-1) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning when Shannon Thomas hit an RBI triple. Desiree Williams followed that with an RBI single to give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead.
Texas added a couple of insurance runs in the fifth on a solo home run by Tina Boutelle and an RBI single by Megan Willis to make it 4-0.
The Rebels will play Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson's former team, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a 5 or 7 p.m. game, depending on Friday and Saturday morning's results.
