Lady Rebel Netters Shut Out LSU 5-0

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team downed LSU 5-0 Friday night at the Gillom Sports Center. The match had to be moved indoors due to rain, and started an hour later.
With the win, Ole Miss improved to 9-6 overall and 2-5 in the SEC. LSU dropped to 8-9 and 0-7 in conference play. The Lady Rebels increased their series lead to 20-11 and 14-4 since 1990.
The Lady Rebel duo of Nika Koukhartchouk and Kseniia Tokarieva downed LSU's Anastasiya Dubova and Marina Chiarelli 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. LSU won 8-5 at No. 3, but Ole Miss won at No. 1 doubles to clinch the first point of the match. Ilona Somers and Virginia Tomatis broke LSU's Tiffany Tucker and Mykala Hedberg at 7-5 to give Ole Miss the 1-0 lead.
Somers gave Ole Miss a 2-0 advantage with a dominating performance in her first match at No. 1 singles, taking out Hedberg 6-0, 6-0. With the win, she improved to 10-3 in dual matches.
Koukhartchouk downed Tucker 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to increase the lead to 3-0. Tokarieva completed the shutout win, cruising to a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Lady Tiger Tiffany Tucker at No. 4 singles. Tokarieva is now 13-1 in dual matches.
Tomatis was tied at 2-2 in the third set against Chiarelli, but LSU retired giving Tomatis the win for the final 5-0 score. When the match was clinched, the final two matches were not played.
The Lady Rebels will conclude their home schedule Sunday against Arkansas at 1 p.m. The first 100 fans to the match will receive a free sun visor courtesy of Coca-Cola of Sardis. It will be senior day and the Lady Rebels will honor Tomatis prior to the start of the match.
