OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team (13-22, 1-8 SEC) will head to Athens, Ga., this weekend for a three-game series against Southeastern Conference Eastern Division foe No. 10 Georgia (29-9, 9-3 SEC).
Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. EST on Saturday and a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
The Rebels are coming off a 5-4, 10-inning victory over the Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday to notch their seventh straight non-conference win. Senior Mandy Ott had a game-winning single that drove in freshman Lisa Conchos in the bottom of the 10th.
Junior left-hander Mary Jane Callahan pitched a complete game and struck out a season-high 10 batters. She had a no-hit bid through five frames before the Devilettes put up all four of their runs in the sixth, after which Callahan shut them down again.
Conchos has led the Rebels in batting average ever since her first collegiate game and currently is tops on the club with a .330 average, while also leading the team with 16 runs scored and 9 multi-hit performances.
Sophomore second baseman Lauren Rowe has provided the Rebels' power, with four home runs and a team-high 21 RBI, including two on Wednesday. No. 10-ranked Georgia, the preseason pick to finish second in the SEC East, stands at first place in the East with a 9-3 league mark heading into this weekend.
Georgia most recently split a doubleheader with No. 25-ranked Georgia Tech on Wednesday. The team will be looking for its 15th consecutive SEC series victory this weekend.
Junior Kellie Middleton leads the Bulldogs at the plate with a .470 average, which ranks second in the conference. Her 45 runs scored and 27 steals both are tops in the SEC. Jessica Doucette and Megan McAllister share the team lead with eight home runs.
Junior right-hander Kasi Carroll leads the squad in the circle with a 13-3 record and 1.32 ERA in 21 appearances and 14 starts. She has 93 strikeouts in 106 innings pitched with just 87 hits allowed.
"Georgia is a very good team," said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson. "I hope that we can play well against a solid SEC team on the road and be able to gain some confidence."
Georgia holds a 16-7 lead in the all-time series against the Rebels. Ole Miss has been swept by the top-10 ranked Bulldogs each of the past two seasons after the Rebels took a game in Oxford in 2003.
