OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team put on shells for the first time in their third spring practice Wednesday, and head coach Ed Orgeron was pleased with the physical work the team got done in several one-on-one drills.

"We had more of a physical practice with some one-on-one drills. We did some contact drills, working on a lot of blocking fundamentals against our linebackers. We also worked goal-line offensive line against defensive line. It went well."

Orgeron was pleased with how well the offensive line and the running backs worked together.

"It was good to see our offensive line and our running backs work on the same path in our zone game. Again, BenJarvus Green-Ellis had an excellent day. Burnell "Mike" Wallace had an excellent day as did Marshay Green. Marshay caught several long balls. Mico McSwain continues to have great practices. Those two tailbacks are excellent."

On the defensive side of the ball, Orgeron continued his praise for lineman Peria Jerry. He also spoke highly of linebacker Robert Russell who impressed in some of the one-on-one blocking drills.

"Robert did some good things out there, and Peria had another dominant day. He's had three great practices this spring."

The Rebels spent a portion of the practice working on the punting game and on field goals. Orgeron said the punting game was a little better.

Ole Miss will return to the practice fields on Friday. A scrimmage is set for Saturday, the first day in full pads.
