SEA ISLAND, Ga. - The Ole Miss men's golf team cut 10 strokes off their second round performance to post a 291 in Sunday's final 18 holes at the 2006 SEC Championships, but it was not enough as the Rebels finished the tournament in 12th place.

"This is a very disappointing weekend for us," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "We played fairly well on Friday and were right in the thick of things, but Saturday we really struggled and although we played better on Sunday we had just dug too deep of a hole to come back."

Sophomore David Marino fired a tournament best round of 70 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 40th place to lead the Rebels. Marino finished the tournament with a 75-76-70--221. One stroke behind him was freshman Larry Blatt. Blatt finished in a tie for 44th place with his 73-74-75--222.

Junior Kyle Ellis and sophomore Jamie Howarth tied for 47th place. Ellis carded a 70-78-75--223, while Howarth turned in a 72-76-75--223. Freshman Will Roebuck rounded out the scoring for Ole Miss. Roebuck tied for 52nd place with his 75-75-76--226.

Georgia took home the team title with 276-282-269--827, while Florida was just one stroke back at 285-274-269--828. Alabama finished in third place by shooting a 280-282-287--849.

Bret Stegmaier of Florida shot a 67 to take home top medalist honors on Sunday. Stegmaier was in a tie for second place entering Sunday's final round of play. He closed out the tournament with a 68-70-67--205. Brian Harman of Georgia moved up from fifth place to second with his final round of 66. Harman shot a 67-73-66--206 for the tournament.
