OXFORD, Miss. - Complete Results

The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams turned in several outstanding performances on a cool, windy day at the Ole Miss Invitational. Two Rebel and five Rebel women earned NCAA regionally qualifying marks.

"It was a difficult day weather wise," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "With the cold and the wind it made it hard to get and stay loose, but I thought our athletes worked through it. That's what you have to do."

The unscored meet included the Alabama men, Arkansas State men and women, UAB women, Illinois women, Memphis men and women, Middle Tennessee men and women, South Florida men, Southern Mississippi women, Tulane women and Vanderbilt women.

Five Ole Miss women turned in NCAA qualifying performances on Saturday. Kenyata Coleman qualified and won the 400 meters with a time of 54.33. Marquita Aldridge won and qualified in the long jump with a mark of 20-00.50. The group of Aldridge, Murray, Mulkey, and Fortune turned in a qualifying time of 45.06 to win the 4x100 meter relay. Cachet Murray and Kim Mulkey turned regional marks of 11.59 and 11.73, respectively, in the 100m, but the marks were winded aided. Murray and Mulkey had previously qualified in the 100 meters. Carmia Carroll turned in a mark of 5-05.00 in the high jump, but failed to qualify. She had previously qualified.

"This is the fastest we have been in the 4x100m at this time of the year," said Walker. "I am really excited to see how we can develop later on in the year. I think this group of athletes can be really good."

On the men's side, Charles Bailey turned in a qualifying mark of 24-02.50 to win the long jump. Ed McCall finished second in the long jump with a mark of 23-09.00. Adewale Odetunde finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 48-09.00. Barnabas Kirui turned a winning time of 14:20.95, but failed to qualify. Kao Wokoma turned in a time of 48.25 to finish second in the 400 meters, but did not qualify. Derek McGuire won the men's shot put with a qualifying mark of 57-01.50.

"It was great to see Charles qualify," said Walker. "He is one of our better athletes and with him competing like he did today that gives us great depth. Barnabas race was indicative of the conditions today. On a good day he is probably a qualifier, but he had to battle the wind."

Former Ole Miss All-American and NCAA champion Antwon Hicks competed as a professional and turned in a time of 13.37 in the 110m hurdles. The time would have been a track record, however it was determined to be wind aided.

Ole Miss will travel to Miami, Fla. next weekend for the University of Miami Invitational. The action will begin on Saturday.
