OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss' Kseniia Tokarieva added another accolade to her outstanding freshman campaign, earning the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's South Region Rookie of the Year Award as announced by the ITA Thursday.
The South Region includes Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi. As the regional award winner, Tokarieva joins seven other regional award nominees on the ballot for the national award, which will be announced May 22 in conjunction with the NCAA Finals in Palo Alto, Calif.
"This award is another testament to all her accomplishments this year," head coach Mark Beyers said. "This is such a great conference and region which makes her winning the SEC Freshman of the Year and this award very significant. We are very excited for her to receive these honors for this year, and more importantly, for what Kseniia will mean to this program over the next three years."
Tokarieva finished with an 8-3 record in the SEC. She began the year at No. 4 where she posted a 5-0 record in conference and worked her way to the top of the lineup with steady play. She finished the year 2-2 at No. 1 singles.
A native of Kiev, Ukraine, Tokarieva finished the season with a combined record of 32-8 in singles and doubles. She went 16-4 in dual match singles and teamed with Nika Koukharthcouk for a 16-4 record at No. 2 doubles. Tokarieva clinched three of Ole Miss' four SEC wins.
