Ole Miss Concludes Day Two At SEC Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Ole Miss sophomore Francis Vital finished in seventh place in the women's heptathlon and earned in the Lady Rebels two team points for the day.

Vital had strong performances in the 800 meters and the long jump, finishing fourth in both the events. She turned in marks of 18-07.75 in the long jump and 2:25.13 in the 800 meters.

"Francis had a strong meet," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "She performed well in her strongest areas and I was glad to see her score points."

The two team points Vital earned place Ole Miss eleventh in the overall women's team scoring after two days.

Junior Crystal Stewart broke the Ole Miss record and turned in a NCAA regional qualifying mark with a mark of 179-05 to finish ninth in the women's hammer throw.

"I am very proud of Crystal," said Walker. "She has battled very hard this season and she came up big at the right time. It was too bad that she fell one spot away from scoring points."

Day three at the SEC Outdoor Championship kicks off tomorrow with the women's discus and long jump at 1:00 pm. The running events begin at 7 pm with the women's 1500 meters.
