OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss outfielder Logan Power was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week by the league office on Monday, marking the first time Power has been selected as a weekly award winner for his efforts on the field in a series win over No. 10 Arkansas over the weekend.
Power hit .364 for the weekend, coming up with a 3-for-4 performance against the Razorbacks on Saturday in a 7-3 win as the Rebels evened the series at a game each. Power also picked up a hit and scored the first run of the game against the Razorbacks on Sunday. The run proved to be a crucial one as Ole Miss won the game by a single run.
"It's certainly an honor for Logan to be named as the Freshman of the Week by the league office," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "Any time someone recognizes the effort put forth on the field, it's a great thing. Logan has played well for us this season and we look for him to continue that trend down the stretch."
Power is batting .319 for the season and has tallied two home runs on the year. His first home run of his career came at No. 19 Georgia as Power again came up with a critical run in a game the Rebels won 11-10 on the way to a sweep. Power's second home run came to spark the Rebel offense in a 6-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana in the middle of an 11-game win streak.
The freshman from Jackson is another in a line of Hillcrest Christian alums to play for the Rebels. Former Hillcrest pitcher and current Rebel freshman Cody Statewide was also named SEC Freshman of the Week earlier in the season.
Power and the Rebels will return to the field to take on the Memphis Tigers in the final home game of the regular season on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
