OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss landed another football telecast Tuesday when it was notified by the University of Missouri that the Sept. 9 game in Columbia, Mo., between the Rebels and Tigers has been selected by Fox Sports Net. Kickoff is now set for 11:30 a.m. CT.
Ole Miss and University of Memphis athletics officials announced last Thursday that they have agreed to move their scheduled September 2 season opener at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field to Sunday, September 3, in order to accommodate a national telecast by ESPN. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. CT.
"Being able to open the season with back-to-back telecasts is exciting for our players and fans," said Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron. "We were told that most of the country, if not all of it, will get the game through Fox Sports Net."
Dating back to 1952, the game with Missouri will be the 152nd national or regional appearance on TV for Ole Miss. During the 1997, 1999, and 2001 seasons, the Rebels had seven television contests each year, while the 2000 campaign saw a school-record eight appearances. Ole Miss was on TV six times last season.
Ole Miss and Missouri will be meeting in football for the first time since 1979. The Tigers hold a 3-1 advantage in the series.
