Lockhart Advances To World Junior Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Ole Miss freshman Rodney Lockhart set a new personal record of 47.09 in the 400 meters at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships on Saturday. Lockhart's time placed him sixth in the finals and earned the Vaden, Miss. native a trip to the World Junior Championships beginning August 9th in Beijing, China.

Lockhart will compete as a member of the 400 meters relay team. His bested his previous best of 47.23 set yesterday during the preliminaries of the 400 meters.

Ole Miss now has had an athlete compete in international competition six of the last eight years.

"I am very proud of Rodney," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "He ran a very smart race out of the eighth lane. He improved his time from the prelims and continues to get better everyday. Rodney will do a great job representing the US in the World Championships."

Quentin Iglehart-Summers, of Baylor, won the 400 meters with a time of 46.02.

All-American John Yarbrough and former national champion Antwon Hicks both advanced to tomorrow's semifinals of the 110-meter hurdles. Yarbrough turned in a time of 13.75 to finish fourth in his heat. Hicks finished third in his heat with a time of 13.62. Both the semifinals and finals of the 110-meter hurdles will be run on Sunday.
