Rebel Netters Excel In The Classroom

OXFORD, Miss. - Three members of the SEC West Champion Ole Miss men's tennis team made the 2006 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll as announced by Commissioner Mike Slive.

Juan Pablo Di Cesare, Bram ten Berge and Erling Tveit were among 39 Rebel student-athletes to make the honor roll, which includes all spring sports.

An All-SEC first team honoree, Tveit was one of only two men's tennis players from the conference to earn All-America honors and make the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Tveit advanced to the NCAA Semifinals in singles and led the Rebels to their fifth consecutive SEC Western Division title as well as their 11th NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" appearance. While earning a final national ranking of No. 12 in the nation in singles and No. 7 in doubles, Tveit turned in an outstanding performance in the classroom, with a 3.5 grade point average in Business.

ten Berge, the 2006 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, holds a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA in the Classics. He finished the 2006 campaign with a 30-14 overall record and earned All-SEC honors.

In addition, ten Berge received the Way, Leavell, Jackson Prize for Excellence in the Classics for the 2006-07 year. He will receive a $500 scholarship per semester. ten Berge also participated, with his second year Greek class, in a National Greek Examination this past spring and earned a perfect score and the highest score at the University of Mississippi.

Di Cesare made the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the second time in his career. The philosophy major holds a 3.37 cumulative grade point average. He ended his career at Ole Miss as an All-SEC honoree with a 34-13 overall record, 21-4 in dual matches. During his career, Di Cesare helped lead the Rebels to two overall SEC Championships, three SEC West titles, and the NCAA Final Four in 2005.

The 2006 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2005 summer, 2005 fall and 2006 spring terms.
