OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss and University of Memphis athletics officials announced Thursday that they have agreed to move their scheduled September 2 season opener at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field to Sunday, September 3, in order to accommodate a national telecast by ESPN. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. CT.

"Getting national TV exposure through ESPN is important with a rising program like ours," said Ole Miss Athletics Director Pete Boone.

The game will mark the fifth televised contest in the series, which dates back to 1921. The ESPN family carried last year's Labor Day encounter and the 2003 meeting from the Liberty Bowl, while Jefferson Pilot Sports did the 1998 and 2002 games from Oxford.

Dating back to 1952, it will be the 151st national or regional appearance on TV for Ole Miss. During the 1997, 1999, and 2001 seasons, the Rebels had seven television contests each year, while the 2000 campaign saw a school-record eight appearances. Ole Miss was on TV six times last season.

"It's a great opportunity to play the opening game of our season on national TV," said Rebel head coach Ed Orgeron. "I'm glad we were able to accommodate ESPN's request to move the game for this telecast."
