Ole Miss Continues Fall Practice With Two-A-Days
8/17/2006 | Football
The Ole Miss Rebel football team practice twice on Thursday in preparation for the upcoming season. The Rebels went light in the morning session and practice in pads in the afternoon.
"We finished up two-a-days," said Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron. "We went a little light this morning after our scrimmage. We worked on a lot of two minute situations. We worked on some kicking game situations that we had not covered.
"This afternoon we got back in the shells and got after it pretty good. The offense got the better part of this afternoon. I thought we ran the ball and made some good plays. "
After watching the film of yesterday's scrimmage Orgeron was still impressed with they play of the defense, in particular that of All-America linebacker Patrick Willis.
"I was really please with the way we played defense, especially the first half when Patrick (Willis) was in there," said Orgeron. "He was tremendous. I thought he made a lot of plays. The defensive line came along. I thought Hayward Howard had a good day. "
Orgeron also noted the improvement of cornerback Nate Banks and the entire Rebel secondary.
"Nate (Banks) is doing fantastic," added Orgeron. "He is doing really well. He is definitely our first corner. I don't have to look at them (the secondary) much. I think Coach Rippon knows his stuff. They are going to have their stuff down. They are going to play well. They are
going to do the right things. If something is broke it should be fixed the next day. There shouldn't be any repeated mistakes."
Ole Miss continues to search for a kicker. The battle is between freshman Joshua Shene and redshirt freshman Justin Sparks.
"Joshua (Shene) had a great day today. It is really tick-and-tack. They are really battling back and forth. Josh had a fantastic day today."
The annual "Meet the Rebels Day" featuring coaches and players from the Ole Miss football team, will be held Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Indoor Practice Facility.
