Former Rebel Bill Stribling Passes Away

ROGERS, Ark. Funeral arrangements have been set for former Ole Miss football player Majure Blanks “Bill” Stribling, who passed away Tuesday at his home at the age of 78. Funeral services will he held Thursday at 1 p.m. CT at First Baptist Church in Rogers, Ark., and burial will follow in Benton County Memorial Park.

           

A native of Philadelphia, Miss., Stribling was a four-year letterwinner for the Rebels (1945; 1948-50) and earned All-SEC honors as a senior. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound right end recorded 33 receptions for 649 yards and four touchdowns during his collegiate career, which was interrupted by military service.

           

Following his freshman season in 1945, Stribling reported for 18 months of GI service before returning to Ole Miss in 1948. He was a decorated World War II veteran of the Army, where he achieved the rank of T-5 and served in the 88th “Blue Devil” Infantry Division in Italy.

           

Following graduation from Ole Miss, Stribling played professionally for the NFL’s New York Giants (1951-53) and Philadelphia Eagles (1955-57) and with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts in 1960. During his six-year NFL career, he competed in 56 games, caught 114 passes for 1,573 yards (13.8 average) and 14 TDs.

 

Born November 5, 1927 to Rolen C. and Cornelia Majure Stribling, Bill and his wife Julia are the parents of one son and two daughters. Bill’s brother, Jack Stribling, was also an All-SEC end at Ole Miss, 1946-49, and led the conference in receiving as a senior.
