Rebels Begin Game Week Practice

8/29/2006 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss Rebel football team began game week preparation for the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday afternoon inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

“We had a solid day of preparation,” said head coach Ed Orgeron, who is entering his second season with the Rebels. “It was the first day we put in a total game plan for Memphis. There were a lot of things that looked good out there and there some things that need improvement.”

Orgeron believes the offensive line is coming together for the first game of the season.

“They had a good day of practice today,” said Orgeron. “They are really gelling. I see a difference in the guys. They are bigger and stronger. I see more double-teams and less zone blocking. The have more confidence in themselves and they have an excellent teacher in Art Kehoe.”

However, the depth along the defensive front remains a concern for Orgeron.

“We are really thin (along the defensive line). We have some guys who aren’t even able to practice. We are just not where we need to be.”

Orgeron liked what he saw from two of his kickers in the first practice of the week.

“Joshua Shene kicked pretty good today. Rob had some good punts. Both those guys kicks pretty good today, but we still have a whole week of practice.”

Ole Miss hosts Memphis Sunday, Sept. 3 at 3:30 p.m. CT. The Mid-South showdown will be televised nationally by ESPN.
