Rebels Continue Preparation For Tigers

8/30/2006 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss football team continued preparation for the season-opening game versus Memphis with a spirited practice inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Wednesday. Rebel head coach Ed Orgeron was encouraged by the work of his players on the practice field.

“We had a good day of preparation today,” said Orgeron. “We are putting in the game plan, executing the game plan and correcting mistakes. Today was a good day. We saw some things on film, corrected them and went out today and did a bit better.”

Orgeron was especially pleased with the development of two new linebackers in freshman Jonathan Cornell and junior college transfer Rory Johnson.

“Jonathan popped up and made a lot of plays today,” said Orgeron. “Rory had some good plays out there. We did some things with him today and we were fired up about it. He had a good day. Those two guys both had a good day.”

Ole Miss hosts the Tigers Sunday, Sept. 3 at 3:30 p.m. CT. The Mid-South showdown will be televised nationally by ESPN. Rebel fans can get pumped up for the football team’s season opener on Saturday, as the Ole Miss Student Spirit Committee will hold a pep rally from 4:30-8 p.m. CT in The Grove.
