8/6/2006 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team concluded day two of fall practice under the hot August sun with a two-and-a-half hour session in shorts and helmets on Sunday afternoon at the practice fields adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Head coach Ed Orgeron is pleased with the progress his team has made in only their second practice of the fall.
"They picked it up a little bit today," said Orgeron. "We are making progress in small steps."
The practice opened with individual one on one work. The Rebels then stretched before working on team run and pass drills. Special team work came next, followed by a team scrimmage.
Orgeron believed the offense gained the upper hand during today's practice.
"The offense had a little bit better day today. They had a better day today overall. They look like they are gelling. A couple of big plays were made out there today."
Two freshmen offensive players were singled out for their progress today.
"John Jerry is coming along a little bit, he is learning his plays. Cordera Eason had a couple of big runs today."
Orgeron was also pleased with the plays made by QB Brent Schaeffer.
"He throws the ball well. He scrambles very well. He is really confident He seems to learn his plays. Dan (Werner) is very happy with his progress. We are going with our installation as planed."
Three freshmen on defensive side were also singled out.
"Marcus Tillman is showing up a little bit. Jamal Harvey and Allen Walker are continuing to do well."
The Rebels will return to the practice fields for second practice of the 2006 fall camp on Monday afternoon.
