Defensive Line Shines In Day Four Of 2006 Preseason Practice
8/8/2006 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team went through the fourth day of pre-season workouts on Tuesday as the Rebels opened the first full week of practice and second day of shoulder pads and helmets.
In their second day in shells, the Rebels worked out with a slight breeze as the squad opened the day with individual drills by position before coming together to work in situational scrimmages.
The team then broke back down into position work before running 7-on-7 drills and closing with more situational scrimmage work.
The work of the defense stood out, particularly that of the defensive line, as three Rebels caught the eye of head coach Ed Orgeron.
"We had a couple of big time performances today by young defensive ends," said Orgeron. "Marcus Tillman, Kentrell Lockett and Greg Hardy really performed well today. They got some sacks, played the run well and I'm just excited about the way they played today.
"The defense had a pretty good day out there today. Marcus can play both Leo and defensive end. The other guys are a little bit lighter, so they will play rush end. Marcus is really coming along. Kentrell is showing some toughness and pass rushing ability, as is Greg Hardy. I really thought those guys shined today."
Ole Miss will return to practice on Wednesday as the Rebels continue to work in anticipation of the season opener on September 3 in Oxford.
