Rebel Golfer In Lead At Scenic City Intercollegiate

9/11/2006 | Men's Golf

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Ole Miss senior Callum Macaulay fired a 69-71140 on the first day of the Scenic City Intercollegiate to lead the field at the Honors Course and pace the Rebels, who sit in fourth place currently.   Second round play was suspended due to darkness, and will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Players teed off on the first and 10th holes at the Par 72-7,215 yard course. The Rebels started on the 10th tee in both rounds.

Macualay had five birdies in the first round.  In the second round, he went birdie, birdie, eagle, on 15, 16 and 17, which was his sixth, seventh and eighth holes, to get to four under after 27 holes of play.  His first round 69 tied for his second lowest round ever.

The Scotland native eagled the second hole, which was his 11th hole, to pull out to minus six for the day, but he finished with back-to-back bogeys and four straight pars to end up at four under.  Macualay leads Garrett Osborn of UAB (-1) and Noah Goldman of Mississippi State (-1) by three.

The only other Rebels who completed their second rounds were senior Brice Bailey and junior Jamie Howarth.  Howarth shot a 78-79157, while Bailey finished at 80-79159.

Senior Chris Rogers carded a first-round 76 and was plus three in the second round with one hole to play.   Sophomore Larry Blatt got off to a good start, posting five birdies on his way to a one-under 71, but four double-bogeys on his front nine of the second round has him at plus 15 with one hole remaining.

The final round will begin at the conclusion of the second round.
