BIRMINGHAM, Ala -- After helping lead Ole Miss to a season-opening 28-25 win over Memphis, wide receiver Dexter McCluster was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday, as announced by the league office.
Making his a start in his first career game, McCluster quickly etched his name in the Rebel record books by collecting 268 all purpose yards in the win over the Tigers. McCluster’s 268 yards put him in fourth place on the Ole Miss single game chart for all purpose yards. Deuce McAllister tops the single game chart with 317 yards versus Arkansas in 1999. The 268 yards is also believed to be an Ole Miss freshman record for all purpose yards in a single game.
The Largo, Fla., native picked up his first career touchdown with a 31-yard rush to open the second quarter versus Memphis. He went on to pick up 60 yards on five carries, 86 yards on six catches and 122 yards on five kick-off returns.
Ole Miss will travel to Columbia, Mo., Sept. 9 to take on Missouri. The Rebels and Tigers will tangle at 11:40 a.m. CT at Memorial Stadium and the game will be televised by FOX Sports Net.
