Rebels Open TCU Tournament With 3-0 Win Over Centenary

Ole Miss (6-2) opened the Nike/LaQuinta Invitational with a bang on Friday, taking a 3-0 (30-21, 30-15, 30-27) win over Centenary (2-6) in the first match of the tournament.
The trio of Kristen Carroll, Katie Kramer and Lauren Moffett carried the Rebels to the win as all three notched double-digits in kills. Kramer paced the team with 17 kills on the afternoon and hit .394 for the day. Carroll added 11 kills and hit .350 for the match.
Moffett turned a stellar performance for the Rebels as she turned in 13 kills on 26 swings with no attack errors for a .500 hitting percentage for the match.
“This was a good opening win for us and we had the opportunity to play younger players tonight and gain some experience on the floor,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. “Katie Kramer had a great night for us once again, and Kristen Carroll did well in limited action. Any night you can have an error free night like Lauren Moffett it’s a good thing because we can force the middle. We just have to get ready for tomorrow.”
The Ladies of Centenary grabbed the first two points of the match, but Ole Miss fought back hard to take the lead, but it would be short lived as Centenary would push ahead by two again at 9-7. Ole Miss was forced into a timeout as the Ladies extended the lead to 13-9.
The Rebels scored first out of the break, snagging three quick points on a pair of kills from Carroll and an attack error by Centenary. A pair of ball handling errors by the Ladies on consecutive plays gave the Rebels the lead again 14-13 before Centenary would end the run with a kill and even the game at 14. The Ladies called a timeout when the Rebels pushed their lead out to three at 18-15.
The Rebels continued to press Centenary, forcing the Ladies into a second timeout when Ole Miss moved ahead to a 24-17 advantage.
The Rebels closed out the game from there, pushing out to a 30-21 win in game one.
Centenary grabbed the first point of the second game, but the Rebels wasted no time in answering, using a run to push ahead of the Ladies by three at 6-3 behind the arm of Carroll. Ole Miss continued to extend its lead, taking a 13-5 edge on Centenary and forcing the Ladies into a timeout.
The Rebels continued to hold the advantage, extending the lead to 23-15 before Centenary would be forced to call a second timeout to slow down the Ole Miss attack.
The lead continued to grow for the Rebels out of the break as Ole Miss used a quick run to close out the game and take game two 30-15.
The Rebels grabbed a quick 2-0 lead to open the third game of the match, but Centenary answered with three quick scores to reclaim the lead. Ole Miss fought back, taking the lead back and moving ahead 8-5 on the Ladies. Centenary answered the Rebel challenge, tying the match at 10.
Ole Miss returned the favor, pushing back out to a four point lead at 16-12 with a quick run of its own. Centenary called timeout when the Rebels extended the advantage to 18-13.
Centenary notched three quick scores out of the break, cutting the Rebel lead to two at 18-16 before a service error would give Ole Miss another point. The Rebels looked to cruise to the finish line, but Centenary made another run, cutting the lead to 29-26 before Ole Miss would call timeout.
The Ladies scored out of the break, cutting the lead to two, but Ole Miss claimed the match on an attack error by Centenary 30-27.
Ole Miss will return to action on Saturday with a pair of matches. The Rebels will face Davidson at
