Rebels Sweep SEC Weekly Awards

1/15/2007 | Women's Basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss senior guard Armintie Price and freshman guard Alliesha Easley swept this week’s SEC weekly awards with Price being tabbed SEC Player of the Week and Easley getting the nod for SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

“I think its just reflection the great week we had as a team,” said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. “Both Armintie and Alliesha were instrumental in our success against LSU and at Kentucky.”

Price earned the honor for the second-straight week and the third time this season after leading Ole Miss to wins over #5/6 LSU and at Kentucky. She averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals over the two-game stretch, including a 15-point, 11-rebounds effort in an overtime win over the Wildcats. She posted her sixth double-double of the season and 48th of her career in the victory.

“This is a great honor, mostly because I get to share it with Alliesha,” said Price, who has now won the award eight times in her Rebel career. “I am enjoying playing with my teammates so much. They really put me in a position to make plays and I have just been trying to come through for them when the opportunity presents itself.”

Easley picked up the honor for the second time this season after leading Ole Miss with 19 points and three boards in the win over the Lady Tigers. The 77-74 win marked the Rebels’ first win over a top five team since knocking off No. 3 Tennessee on Feb. 4, 1996. The Cordova, Tenn., native also scored 12 points and had three rebounds in the win over Kentucky, including 10 in the first half.

“These wins were really a true team effort,” said Easley, who is second on the team with 11.4 points per game. “I am just the fortunate one to get my name on the award. I am honored to be recognized.”

Price, Easley and the Rebels will next play host to South Carolina on Thursday, Jan. 18 in Tad Smith Coliseum. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. and will be televised live on FSN South.
