The Lady Rebels will play six of their first eight matches at home, where they have fared well. Last season, Ole Miss went 7-5 at home, including 6-0 against non-conference opponents.
“We are looking forward to getting the season started,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “The girls have been working hard in practice, and we are excited to see where we are at. We have a challenging schedule this season with some tough matches on the road, which will hopefully prepare us for the always tough SEC.”
Ole Miss, voted to finish second in the SEC Western Division standings, returns five of the top six from a year ago and has added two newcomers who are expected to contribute immediately.
Leading the way for Ole Miss will be the lone senior, Ilona Somers, who earned All-SEC honors in 2006. Also returning is last year’s SEC Freshman of the Year, Kseniia Tokarieva, who started out at No. 4 in the lineup and moved up to No. 1 by the end of the season.
Juniors Nika Koukhartchouk, Preethi Subramanian and Mimi Renaudin, round out the list of returning players. All three helped the Lady Rebels capture the SEC West title in 2005 and make the NCAA Championships for the 11th time in the history of the program.
