1/27/2007 | Women's Basketball
MYRTLE, Miss. Ole Miss senior guard Armintie Price was honored Friday evening by her alma mater, Myrtle High School. In an event tabbed "Armintie Price Day" the All-Southeastern Conference performer saw her high school jersey retired among other honors.
"Words cannot describe what this means to me," said Price, who led Myrtle High to the 2003 Mississippi Class A state title. "I am so honored and just thankful for everyone who helped make this day happen. Myrtle is like an extended family to me and it feels so good to be back."
Price, who was joined by her Rebel teammates at the ceremony, collected 16 state titles in all at MHS, 15 in track and field and one with the basketball team. She is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in school history, including a 51-point performance at the state tournament.
Price was presented with a glass enclosed uniform, which will remain permanently in the halls of MHS and also a jersey on a banner which will hang in the Myrtle High gymnasium in her honor. She was also presented a plaque and a notebook full of letters written to her to thank her for contributions to her high school programs.
