Hardy Named SEC Defensive Lineman of Week

10/15/2007 | Football

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss' Greg Hardy turned in a career day against Alabama Saturday and was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week today, as announced by the league office.

A sophomore end from Millington, Tenn., Hardy posted career highs of 13 total tackles, nine solos, five TFLs, three sacks, two forced fumbles and two QB hurries. One of his hurries forced an interception, and he tackled the Tide holder for a five-yard loss on a fake field goal attempt in the closing minutes, setting up Ole Miss' final drive. He was honored as the Lincoln Financial Group Player of the Game.

Hardy has nine tackles for loss and five QB sacks in the last two games, and he leads the SEC in both categories with 16.0 TFLs and 8.0 sacks as well as forced fumbles with three. The versatile Hardy also recorded touchdown catches in each of the first two games of the year. It gave him three straight games with a TD grab, dating back to the Mississippi State game in 2006.

Hardy is the second Rebel to earn SEC weekly honors this season. Junior DB Dustin Mouzon was distinguished as SEC Defensive Player of the Week after intercepting two passes at Memphis and returning the second 99 yards for a touchdown.

Ole Miss returns to action Saturday, hosting Arkansas at 1 p.m. CT at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
