Hardy Named to Hendricks Mid-Season Watch List

10/19/2007 | Football

CHICAGO Ole Miss’ Greg Hardy is among 37 candidates on the mid-season watch list for the 2007 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award.

A sophomore from Millington, Tenn., Hardy currently leads the SEC in TFLs with 16.0, sacks with 8.0 and forced fumbles with three. He is the reigning SEC Player of the Week following a career performance against Alabama with 13 total tackles, nine solos, five TFLs, three sacks, two forced fumbles and two QB hurries.

Hardy received First Team Freshman All-American honors at end a year ago. The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder has also seen time on offense with three career touchdown catches, and last season, he competed in 15 games with the Ole Miss basketball team, earning a start at LSU.

This list for the 2007 Hendricks Award winner will be shortened to include five to six finalists in November. The final vote will be concluded on Dec. 3 and will be announced Dec. 5. Leading college coaches, former players and coaches, media members and pro football personnel professionals vote in the selection process.

This award is in honor of Miami three-time All-American and NFL Hall of Famer Ted Hendricks. On-field performance, leadership abilities and contributions to school and community are some of the criteria used to determine the award winner. The candidates may represent any class (freshman through senior) as well as any recognized four-year NCAA member school (Division I through Division III).

Previous award recipients include Terrell Suggs of Arizona State (2002), David Pollack of Georgia (2003 and 2004), Elvis Dumervil of Louisville (2005) and LaMarr Woodley of Michigan (2006).
