Ole Miss Leads Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate

10/21/2007 | Men's Golf

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Ole Miss men’s golf team fired a one-under 283 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, and leads arch-rival Mississippi State (284) by one stroke heading into the second round.

Rebel freshman Jonathan Randolph and junior Jesse Speirs led the defending champion, both shooting 69s to tie for third at the 7,100-yard, par-71 Roper’s Knob Course.  South Alabama, host Vanderbilt, and Louisville round out the top five after 18 holes of play.

“It was really windy out there today,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “I thought at one point even par would be a good score, and we are one-under, so we are pleased.  We are going to go out tomorrow and try to extend our lead.”

Senior Kyle Ellis carded a one-over 72, David Marino shot 73 and Will Roebuck finished with an 85 to round out the Rebel scoring.

The second round of play begins Tuesday with the Rebels teeing off at 9:40 a.m.  Check back at www.olemisssports.com for second round results.
