Game Preview: Ole Miss vs. Northwestern State

For Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron, it will mark a familiar opponent on Saturday. Orgeron was a four-year starting defensive lineman for the Demons from 1980 to 1983 and served as a graduate assistant coach in 1984.
“Having played there and having to play against them, I know they are going to come ready to play,” Orgeron said. “It is a bowl game for them. They are going to be very fired up to play us, and there is no way we can take them very lightly. Are we a better football team? Yes. Should we win the game? Yes. But we have to prepare to play them.”
Offensively, senior Seth Adams has started all nine for Ole Miss (2-6) this season and completed 152-of-271 passes for 1,809 yards and 12 touchdowns. Senior backup Brent Schaeffer has seen action in the last outings for the Rebels and three total this season, connecting on 9-of-21 passes for 191 yards and a pair of scores.
Junior Mike Wallace has been the favorite target of both quarterbacks. The
Senior BenJarvus Green-Ellis remains among the top five tailbacks in the SEC, carrying the ball 172 times for 847 yards and two scores. Backup Bruce Hall has 38 carries for 162 yards.
Defensively, the Rebels boost one of the conference’s best tacklers in linebacker Ashlee Palmer. The junior has registered 80 total tackles, including 45 solos, with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Junior linebacker Tony Fein has come on strong as of late, registering 31 stops over the last two games. So far this season, Fein has 61 total tackles, including 37 solos.
Saturday’s game will mark the second time these two teams have faced each other. Ole Miss won the first and only meeting last season, 27-7 in
