Ole Miss Cross Country Teams Conclude At NCAA South Regionals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The Ole Miss men’s and women’s cross country teams wrapped up competition with 16th and 20th place respective finishes Saturday afternoon at the NCAA South Regionals hosted by the University of Florida.

 

Alabama won the men’s team championship with a total of 28 points, while Florida State was a close second with 52 points.  Florida (82), Belmont (121) and Mississippi State (135) rounded out the top-five finishing teams. 

 

Rebel sophomore Gabriel Ngwiri was the top finisher for Ole Miss as he earned a 43rd overall finish with a time of 32:24.04.  Sophomore Chad Berry finished second on the team with a time of 36:15.33 to earn an overall finish of 267.  Freshman Ty Gillespie was third on the team and 119th overall with his time of 36:32.08.

 

Fellow freshman Jephtah Kenei took fourth on the team and 127th overall with a time of 37:50.58, while freshman Alejandro Quintana crossed the line in a time of 39:13.06 to collect a 131st overall finish to round out the Ole Miss runners.

 

On the women’s side, the Lady Rebels totaled 513 points en route to a 20th place finish.  Florida State won the team event with 40 points, while Georgia (75), Florida (94), Tennessee (152) and UAB (184) were the other top-five finishing teams. 

 

Ole Miss freshman Julie Little paced the Lady Rebels for the first time this season as she turned in a 92nd place finish with a time of 24:03.68.  Sophomore Anna Adams was second on the team and 99th overall with her time of 24:20.23.

 

Freshman Allison Kneip finished third on the team with a time of 25:30.09 to earn a 125th place overall finish.  Junior Lindsay Doucett placed 127th overall with a time of 25:40.50, while freshman Meghan Bright was the fifth Ole Miss finisher with her time of 26:53.01 to tally a 141st place finish.
