Aaron Barrett Latest Addition To Diamond Rebels Signing Class

11/15/2007 | Baseball

OXFORD, Miss. The Rebels added the fifth signee of the fall signing period with the signing of Aaron Barrett to a national letter of intent, Ole Miss announced on Thursday.

Barrett is a 6-4, 220-pound right-handed pitcher from Evansville, Ind., where he has been playing for Wabash Valley College. Barrett helped lead the Warriors to a 34-20 record in 2007 and a third-seed in the conference tournament.

The right-hander was a stand-out pitcher for Evansville Central High School before signing with Wabash Valley College and was drafted in the 44th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft by the Dodgers.

Barrett is a three-pitch player with a 90-93 mph fastball, power slider and a change-up.

“We expect Aaron to be able to come in and be an impact player for us,” said Ole Miss assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Reinstetle. “We believe all of our pitchers in this class have the ability to come in and be weekend guys for us, but we see Aaron being a guy to fill the shoes of a Cody Satterwhite or Lance Lynn.”

Barrett selected the Rebels over Louisville, Kentucky, Miami (Fla.) and Kansas. He will be able to compete for Ole Miss in the 2008-09 academic year.

Earlier Thursday, the Rebels announced the signing of catcher Taylor Hightower and pitcher Brett Huber.
