Mahan Earns Academic All-District Honors
11/8/2007 | Volleyball
OXFORD, Miss. - Junior outside hitter Nicole Mahan was named to the ESPN: The Magazine Academic All-District VI Third Team on Thursday, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
It is the second straight year Mahan has been named to the team as she was an Academic All-District VI Second Team selection a year ago. The junior from Amarillo, Texas, boasts a 3.90 grade point average in Art History and was a big part of the Rebel volleyball team claiming the Chancellor's Cup last year for having the highest GPA among all athletic teams on campus.
Mahan has been an integral part of the Rebels' success this season as Ole Miss has posted a 22-6 overall record and 11-5 mark in SEC play to date. It is the first winning season for the Rebels in SEC play since the league began tracking the sport in 1984 and set the school record for wins in the SEC.
The outside hitter put down a career-high 28 kills against Wright State earlier in the season to help Ole Miss secure the Sheraton Invitational at the University of Akron, and has turned in 14 double-digit dig performances on the year as a player who can play a full rotation for the Rebels.
Mahan and the Rebels will continue their season tonight at Alabama, as Ole Miss will face-off with the Crimson Tide at 7 p.m. at Coleman Coliseum.
