GAME #9: Ole Miss vs. Miami

MIAMI, Fla. On the heels on a heartbreaking loss to Penn State Thursday night, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team remains in search of its first road win of the season when the Lady Rebels test Miami Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. from the BankUnited Center.
Ole Miss (4-4, 0-0 SEC) nearly handed Penn State its first home loss of the season with a furious comeback against the Lady Lions from the Bryce Jordan Center. After trailing by as many as 10 points late in the game, the Lady Rebels cut the Penn State deficit to just two points with under two minutes remaining. Penn State, however, was able to score clutch baskets down the stretch to help propel the Lady Lions to a seven-point victory.
Individually, Ole Miss continues to be led on the offensive end by junior center Shawn Goff as she paces the team with 11.8 points per game. Not far behind, senior forward Carla Bartee averages 11.6 points per game to go along with a team-high 11.3 rebounds. Sophomore guard Shantell Black upped her season average to 11.5 points per game following a career-high 17 points against Penn State.
Miami (4-5, 0-0 ACC) enters Saturday’s game having lost two straight games after falling at home to Florida International and Houston in its most recent outings. The Hurricanes are led by senior guard Maurita Reid who leads the team with 15.0 points per game. Reid, who is the only player to average double figure points, also leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game.
The Lady Rebels and Hurricanes will be meeting for the fifth time Saturday with both teams claiming a pair of wins in the all-time series. Ole Miss won the last meeting as the Lady Rebels claimed an 82-64 triumph last season in Oxford.
